Contribute

Arameans.com is a living archive — built from research, memory, and the voices of our people. If you have a story to tell, material to preserve, or knowledge to share, we’d love to hear from you.

This is a community space for history, culture, language, identity, diaspora life, village memory, faith traditions, arts, music, food, and biographies — and for thoughtful writing that helps future generations find themselves in a wider story.

What you can contribute

1) Articles & essays

  • Personal stories (family, village, migration, diaspora life)
  • Historical essays (well-sourced and readable)
  • Culture pieces (traditions, feasts, music, cuisine, crafts)
  • Profiles/biographies of people who shaped community life
  • Opinion / reflection (grounded, respectful, and constructive)

2) Digital archive material

  • Old photographs (family, village, church, community events)
  • Letters, documents, certificates, manuscripts, newspapers
  • Audio/video recordings (songs, interviews, oral histories)
  • Maps, sketches, and other historical materials

3) Corrections & additions

  • Fix an error, add missing context, suggest sources
  • Help improve timeline entries, names, dates, locations, spellings

4) Translation & language help

  • Translate or proofread (English / Syriac / Arabic / Turkish / etc.)
  • Help with Aramaic/Syriac terms, transliteration, and captions

What we look for

We’re most excited by contributions that:

  • Add something real: a new perspective, overlooked history, lived experience, or preserved material
  • Respect complexity: identity and history are sensitive — we welcome discussion, not hostility
  • Are careful with claims: if you state a fact, include a source (link, citation, book/article title)
  • Serve the archive: details matter — dates, locations, names, and context help future readers

Writing guidelines (for articles)

To keep the platform high-quality and useful for readers:

  • Original work only. Please don’t submit something that’s already published elsewhere (including on social media or other websites), unless you clearly have the rights and you tell us where it appeared.
  • Clarity matters. Write in a way an interested reader can follow — avoid vague claims; define terms when needed.
  • Use sources when relevant. Links are great. Book/article references are welcome. If you can, include page numbers for key claims.
  • Be respectful. No hate speech, harassment, slurs, or attacks on individuals or groups.
  • Protect privacy. Don’t publish someone’s personal contact details. For living people, be mindful and fair.

Suggested length: 800–2,000 words is ideal. Shorter pieces can work if they’re tight and meaningful. Longer work may be published in parts.

Guidelines for photos, documents, and archive items

If you’re submitting archival material, please include as much of the following as you can:

  • What it is (photo, letter, certificate, recording, etc.)
  • Approximate date (even a decade range helps)
  • Place (village/city + region/country)
  • People shown (names, nicknames, roles if known)
  • Why it matters (a short description or story behind it)
  • Rights/permission (confirm it belongs to you or you have permission to share)

File tips

  • Photos: original scans or high-resolution images are best
  • Large files: share via a cloud link (Google Drive/Dropbox/etc.)

How to submit

  • Click “Create” in the top menu, create an account and draft your post.

Option B — Send it to us

What happens after you submit

  • We review every submission for fit, clarity, and accuracy.
  • We may suggest edits (structure, sourcing, captions, spelling, tone).
  • Not everything can be published, but we’ll treat every submission with respect.
  • If we publish your work, we will credit you in a clear way (unless you request anonymity).

Rights and credit

  • You keep ownership of what you submit.
  • By submitting, you give Arameans.com permission to store, edit (lightly), and publish the material on our platform and promotional channels (for example, sharing a link on social media), with credit.
  • If something needs to be removed or corrected later, contact us and we’ll handle it thoughtfully.
