Mor Ignatius Aphrem I Barsoum (1887–1957) was the 120th Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch from 1933 until his death. Born in Mosul, he became a monk, priest, and later archbishop during a period of great hardship for the Syriac Orthodox community, especially after World War I. A distinguished scholar and church leader, he worked to rebuild church institutions, care for refugees, and preserve Syriac heritage through extensive research and publications on Syriac history, theology, liturgy, and culture.
