Eliya of Nisibis

Elijah (Eliya or Elias) of Nisibis (975–1046) was a cleric of the Church of the East and one of the most important Christian writers in Arabic of the 11th century. Serving as bishop of Beth Nuhadra and later archbishop of Nisibis, he produced influential scholarly and theological works, most notably his Chronography, a key source for the history of Sassanid Persia and medieval chronology. A learned theologian and linguist, Elijah also wrote apologetic dialogues with Muslim officials, Syriac–Arabic linguistic works, and treatises defending Christian doctrine, making him a central figure in medieval Near Eastern Christian scholarship.
