Touma Audo (1853–1918) was a distinguished Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Urmia and a preeminent scholar of the Syriac language. He is best remembered for his magnum opus, Treasure of the Syriac Language (1897), a monumental two-volume Syriac-Syriac dictionary that remains a definitive reference in the field. Beyond lexicography, he contributed significantly to Neo-Aramaic literature through translations and grammars, earning him recognition as a foundational figure in modern Assyrian letters. His life ended tragically during the Assyrian Genocide (Sayfo) in Urmia, where he was killed while providing shelter to thousands of Christian refugees.
