On Aramean Suffering and Identity

"For about twenty-five centuries, our Assyrian homeland [waṭanunā al-ʾĀthūrī] was under the control of many nations… Its Aramean inhabitants [sukkānuhu al-ʾĀrāmiyīn] were under the yoke of slavery… We and our homeland, O Syriac people [maʿšar al-Suryān], are like a ball in the hand of sports players… We the Arameans [al-ʾĀrāmiyūn] have been suffering for 2,500 years… What shall we, the Syriac [al-Suryān] people, do? … Which nation is more oppressed than our Syriac [al-Suryān] nation? And which people were subdued for such a long time more than our Aramean people [šaʿbuna al-ʾĀrāmī ]? And which people was suppressed with much persecution as much as our Assyrian people [qawmunā al-ʾĀthūrī ]?"
