Ishodad of Merv was a 9th-century East-Syriac (Church of the East) bishop of Hdatta near Mosul and a major biblical commentator, best known for his extensive Syriac commentaries on almost the entire Bible, which drew on earlier Greek and Syriac theologians and became highly influential across both East and West Syriac traditions.
