First Patriarchal Visit, Sherbrooke

In 1960, Patriarch Jacob III undertook a five-month pastoral visit to the Americas. On June 12, he arrived in Sherbrooke, Canada, where he was greeted by the local priest, Fr. A. Carim Karma of St. Ephrem Syriac Orthodox Church. Government officials received the Patriarch, and he was given a police escort. During his stay, he celebrated the Holy Liturgy at St. Ephrem’s. A banquet in his honor was hosted by St. Ephrem’s Aramean community on June 14, followed by an official dinner organized by the Catholic Church on June 18.
